# 1 - Quick Tips and Pointers
- A Wedding Professional may
end up being your best friend. He or she is a professional who will take care of
your every need. Not everyone hires a wedding professional and plan on their own.
Ask anyone who has experienced planning their own wedding and they will most likely
recommend you hire a professional. Their knowledge and negotiating skills are sure
to help you save money in the long run.
To Hire a Wedding Consultant, or Not
Here are some questions to help you decide if a wedding professional is right for you.
and be honest).
1. You are planning a large wedding (200-300 guests) Yes=10, No=0
2. You are planning a small wedding (50-150 guests) Yes=5, No=0
3. You have many unfinished at-home projects Yes=8, No=1
4. Your friends describe you as “very organized” Yes=1, No=9
5. Negotiating contracts is a skill you have Yes=2, No= 6
6. You know exactly what you want and will get it Yes=1, No=7
7. You are having a destination wedding Yes=10, No=0
Add up your score and read below (this is of course non-scientific!).
A score of 10-20 points means you are most likely a go-getter! You will do whatever it
takes to plan the entire wedding and you know how to accomplish the tasks of selecting
vendors and making good financial decisions (you have solid skills or experience in budgeting,
interpreting and negotiating contracts, time management and project management skills).
If you’re planning a small wedding, it will be manageable and it easily fits in your daily
schedule.
A score of 21-34 points means you have quite a bit of busy work to do in your large
wedding and could use the services of a professional. If you scored high, say 35-50
points, consider talking to a wedding professional immediately.

# 2 - About
- Wedding professionals are experts
in planning weddings. They know what to expect, which vendors are reliable, quirky things
about a venue, and they are specialists in servicing your needs. Many planners,
consultants, professionals, experts and catering managers offer a wide range of services,
from office consultation, to vendor negotiation, to managing rehearsals and discretely
assisting you on the day of your wedding. The professionals already know about the little
stressful events that can happen and how to properly handle them.
Where to find a wedding professional? Ask friends and relatives for referrals. Attend
local bridal shows. Get on the Internet and research wedding professionals in your area,
or search for wedding associations with lists of consultants. Many wedding consultants
have web sites that describe their services and fees. Call the professional and/or
schedule a meeting, then go with your gut feeling. Many brides express unhappiness about
some issues when working with their wedding coordinator but can only point at themselves.
In other words, a consultant may recommend the color blue when the bride wants the color
green, but agrees with the consultant. The bride ends up being unhappy about her choice.
Just another reminder that it is your wedding and that you hired the consultant for help
in areas that you need. You want to make good decisions that are comfortable for you.
